Congress vetoes Bush
For the first time in Bush's canidacy, Congress has aquired enough votes to override his veto on November 8. The bill the Bush previously vetoed was "The water bill authorizes popular projects in states across the country, including hurricane recovery efforts in Louisiana, environmental restoration in the Florida Everglades and flood control in California. But it does not actually appropriate money for the projects, which must be done in spending bills". This is an important veto, because it is showing that the Democrats have taken control of Congress. They have even been able to turn some Republicans to vote along with them for the 2/3 vote. By overpowering Bush, they have gained confidence in that they will be able to override future vetoes that Bush tells he will commit to. Overall, I do not want to say what i think about the over 20 billion dollar bill that now will be put into effect, all I would like to say is that I do not approve of the Republicans that did vote to override the veto. All they are trying to do is to serperate themselves from the unpopular Bush to protect their image, when they are not really acting on their Republican ideals, which is not how this government in my opinion should work.

Soooo, you believe that people should stand in line and follow what the party boss tells them to think. Hmmmm. Interesting. How about people think what they want to think and vote how they want to vote. Being bound by party lines is foolish and, frankly, a bit if not extremely fascist. A true Republican who cares about his country should look out for his COUNTRY first and foremost. In my opinion, a true democracy/republic shouldn't have parties at all.
I agree with you on some aspects. I believe that i'm actually proud of the democrats in congress for actually following through. You know the whole saying of how democrats can't agree on a certain issue, in this case, that image is broken. This gives evidence that the Democrats in control of Congress will continue to prosper and become one on issues, hoping to override issues that they don't agree with Bush. I don't really see why you disagree with the Republicans not voting with the democrats. I know that they should have voted to agree but there will always be supporters of Bush despite how deep of a hole he has dug. I am all for the ennvironment but some limits should be set because some of that money can target healthcare.

i agree with chris, party systems, in a way, are contradictory to true democracy, maybe we should just stick to direct democracy for everything

I'm proud that the democrats are confident their opinion and are taking action. I also think that its great that the republicans are not voting on something simply because of their party. Yet I don't they should vote opposite of the president simply because slot of people don't like the president, they should vote on what they believe on.
